Short Story: The Royal

I used to own a 1936 Royal typewriter, the “original laptop.” It was a heavy beast, too. This story was written in 2003, back when the typewriter was on the desk beside me. I lost it in a flood about fifteen years ago, but I still have that itch to find another. I just hope the one I find doesn’t come with something attached to it.

Short Story: Sprouts

There is, in fact, a forest in central Arizona which burned down in 1990. I took a trip there a few weeks after the fire had been put out and snapped the picture that inspired this story. I didn’t actually write it until 2003, but it was that picture which was taped to my monitor the whole time.

Short Story: Terminal Conversations

Time travel has been written about so many times, there can’t be anything fresh in it. I decided to play with time travel once—and only once.

“Terminal Conversations” appeared in Travel a Time Historic, an anthology published in 2005.

Short Story: Harlan’s Holes

I sat and stared at holes in my wall one day before I started writing this. I’m pleased with how everything flowed together. In 2021, this story won in the Adult Category for the All Pikes Peak Writes annual competition, sponsored by the Pikes Peak Library District.
