ISSUE 1. SEPTEMBER 13, 2021

Howdy. I’m Benjamin X. Wretlind and this is the 1st issue of A Semi-Not-Horribly-Regular Newsletter.

That’s right: the 1st. I may have tried this once or twice before, but this is the 1st issue of what will be a–you guessed it–Semi-Not-Horribly-Regular Newsletter.

I’ve been tinkering with all that marketing stuff over the last few weeks. Marketing is not my forte. It is a mysterious thing that looks like magic when done right. For those who have stopped by recently, you may have noticed a few changes:

There are few other changes, mostly behind the scenes as I stumble through the magical thing called Marketing.

Book News

Beneath Gehenna, a Lovecraftian steampunk apocalyptic sci-fi horror novel, is currently being serialized on Kindle Vella. As this novel is 100% written and edited, new episodes are released on Sunday and Thursday of each week.

What is Kindle Vella? Kindle Vella brings you stories released one short episode at a time, available in the Kindle for iOS app and on Amazon.com. You can read more about it in my 3-part series here.

You can start reading for free, and if you’ve never been on Kindle Vella before, you get 200 “tokens” for just dropping by. That means you can read the first 11 episodes of Beneath Gehenna for absolutely nothing.

The more episodes you give a “thumbs up” to and the more you “Fave”, the higher the chance other readers will find the story and increase “the buzz” around it. You can also share links directly from the app or website.

Personally, any buzz around my work would be awesome!

To start reading, go to this website: https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella/product/B09CZK57GP or click the logo below. See? I make things easy.

I plan to release my collection Regarding Dead Things on the Side of the Road later this year.

With 15 short stories, some poems and two novellas, this collection should have something for everyone. Covering ground from 1991 until 2021, each story is forwarded by my own short take on why or how it was written. So, if you’re looking for a literary smörgåsbord, this collection is right for you.

Some of these stories have been published in magazines like The Horror ExpressAll HallowsHorror Carousel and the Bare Bones anthology series, while others have never been published before.

More information about when the collection will be released will be found in an upcoming Semi-Not-Horribly-Regular Newsletter and on my website. Also all those social media sites and stuff. Maybe a billboard, but I doubt it.

A Difficult Mirror is finally gaining some traction. This is great news. The book took me nearly 20 years to write and has a special place in my heart.

I took a long break from marketing (as some of you know), and during that time the book dropped significantly in terms of numbers. I’ve updated the cover, made a few tweaks to the text and through the magic that is Marketing, and I’ve recently seen a 200% increase in traffic.

If you haven’t picked up a copy, try it out. If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read for free. There’s also the smell-good paper version if you like to hold books in your hand.

This Past Week’s Work

Aside from the above, I’ve been writing a sci-fi philosophy novella called Sunset on Maior Pales. Without giving too much away, here’s a little “back cover blurb” teaser.

CYN-4329-2316-ACBS-092134853a–known to itself as Cletus–has a bug in its programming. Against all logic, the ghost of a young man has muddled its circuits and promised to give it a soul…provided one small thing that only a self-aware robot with a yearning to self-actualize can do.

I hope to have the majority of the text written by November. At that time, I’ll start the editing/beta-reading/editing again process.

In the meantime, this Semi-Not-Horribly-Regular Newsletter will likely have previews of the novel that will only be available to you!

Also to your friends, if you let them know and they sign up at this link: https://www.bxwretlind.com/blog/subscribe

That does it for this issue of the newsletter. I’ll see you back here next time!
