Description (from Amazon.com)
Half satire, half farce, and half slice-of-life, REVOLUTION dives into the world of Bill and Yvonne Smede, two middle-aged professionals attempting to lead semi-sane, low-profile lives amidst the loud, swirling chaos of Southern California and the colorful antics of all their friends and relations.
It’s a novel about everyday folks with everyday thoughts and feelings and experiences, and how entertaining this seemingly bland material can actually be. It’s also about ideas—lots of them, mainly small ones. And it’s about our modern Internet-immersed world. And Southern California. And middle age. But above all else, REVOLUTION is simply a comedy—a fun, lighthearted read to be zipped through easily and merrily.
So relax and enjoy the ride, and get ready to laugh. A lot. And along the way, you just might find some food for thought here and there. You also might find you’ve become intimately acquainted with several true-to-life, flesh-and-blood characters as they struggle to maneuver through the numerous ordinary yet ridiculous situations their wacky world constantly throws at them.

The Review
Revolution by David Dorrough offers an intimate look into the lives of middle-aged Angelenos in search of greater meaning. Dorrough’s debut novel centers around married couple Bill and Yvonne Smede and their circle of friends and neighbors. With its lack of plot and microscope on daily life, Revolution evokes the conversational charm of shows like Seinfeld.
I lived north of Los Angeles for a time and was fascinated by the life people led in that “big city just over that mountain range.” I think that may be one of the reasons this book captivated me–I could relate.
Dorrough immediately pulled me into the world of his characters through witty dialogue and vivid everyday details. While the lack of traditional plot may put some readers off, I delighted in seeing the story threads artfully woven together. As Dorrough’s characters chased dreams and grappled with the realities of midlife, I found myself invested in their pursuits.
Though Revolution lends itself to dipping in and out, I powered through, eager to see what cleverly observed human moment Dorrough would unwrap next. He delivers poignant yet humorous looks at the ennui that often accompanies middle age. Fans of character-driven books that find resonance in life’s quieter moments will find much to enjoy in Revolution‘s affectionate satire of mundane urban living.

More About the Author
Very little is known about David Dorrough—not because he is secretive, but because nobody is really interested in knowing. David is widely believed to be a male human who grew up on earth and currently still resides there. The novel REVOLUTION is David’s first book (and possibly his last—he found writing it to be quite hard work). David is rumored to be rather fond of certain foods, and of the color blue. Additional tidbits about him may have been revealed during a recent extensive interview conducted by a highly respected journalist from a prestigious publication; it isn’t currently known when (or even if) this interview will be available in its entirety, but excerpts from it are allegedly forthcoming on the “Latest” page of the REVOLUTION website (https://revolutionnovel.com).
