Description (from Amazon.com)
The Devil is loose in southern Oregon. A monster wildfire explodes and begins to devour everything in its path. Miles from any roads, a father and his blind 11-year-old daughter are trapped while backpacking in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. Smoke, flames, and tornadic winds thwart efforts to save them. The only way into the violent firestorm may be a dangerous, off-the-books rescue attempt proposed by a pair of rappelling firefighters.
But there’s no way out.

More About the Author
John Riha was born and raised in the Midwest. He visited the West several times and finally resolved to stay there, with the big mountains and clear rivers.
He grew up spending most of his summers at their funky family lake house. For a small kid it was a universe full of waves and seaweed and tadpoles and rowboats—where all things that mattered existed.
Both his parental grandparents were carpenters, and he inherited the gene. He’s always been intrigued by wood and construction. He has built and remodeled houses but especially enjoys fine woodworking—turning a piece of raw wood into a thing of polished purpose.
Eventually, he parlayed his building experiences into journalism. He’s been an editor on several national magazines, and he’s authored many books and articles on home improvement.
Now he writes about the West.
“The West” as an entity (or a myth) is hard to describe. Maybe that’s what makes it so intriguing. The scale, the raw beauty, the promise.
