My Thoughts
Collections are some of my favorite reading, not because I don’t want to immerse myself in a writer’s world for 350 pages, but because I sometimes want to immerse myself in a writer’s WORLDS. Short story collections by a single author are views into the brain of another.
In When I’m Lonely I Dream of You by Tallie, the twelve worlds we are presented with may be either dreamscapes or realities which mirror dreams. Figuring which is which is part of the mystery and the fun of the book, and there’s even a quick quiz at the end to see if you were right.
Each of the stories is told in a style that, while modern, is reminiscent of some authors I have read in the past, those who weave words into wonderful narratives in bite-sized portions. By far, “Daesang” was my favorite, as it weaves those words surreally, something of which I am a fan.
Overall, I was impressed with the short story collection and with the number of genres covered. And it is short. At 98 pages, you would think there would be less. Yet less can be more, and Tallie does an outstanding job of letting you into her dreamsโฆor not.
