My Thoughts

Every once in a while, it’s nice to read a book certainly not meant for my age group. With Pebbles and the Biggest Number by Joey Benun, I hit the jackpot. As little readers follow Pebbles, a butterfly, looking for the biggest number, they are introduced to a variety of animals and locations around the world, the trivia is fun to learn. The illustrations by Laura Watson fit perfectly within the story.

When I was 6 or 7, I would have read this book a hundred times. I was always fascinated with numbers and science, so everything Joey Benun put in Pebbles and the Biggest Number was like stepping back a few decades to be a kid again. The fact that there were meteorological facts within the all the other science was the topping on the cake. I even learned things I didn’t know, like how many grains of sand it would take to cover New York to a depth of three mattresses.
