My Thoughts

The anthology section at the bookstore is never very large, but it is in anthologies where the true poetic narrative shines. I say this from a person who’s been in anthologies and enjoys reading them. It takes a different mindset to write a short story, a piece of flash fiction, and definitely a poem. I commend all who have done it. It sometimes takes me 500 pages to get to the point.

Not so with Because That’s Where Your Heart Is, an anthology by Sans Pres and edited by Sam Agar. Sans. Press bills itself as an independent publisher with themed anthologies, and the obvious theme of this one is love–romance, passion, eros and philia, agape.

Within this theme, you may find yourself in stories that are paranormal, that are poetic, that are warm-hearted. From VR to actual reality, the sixteen stories presented in Because That’s Where Your Heart Is are both entertaining and thought-provoking. By far, my favorite was the story that first pulled me into reading this anthology: “The Girl Who Lives on the Moon” by Joseph Anderson. Another favorite is “Encounters in Time” by Sam Muller. Both of these are poetic and moving and have stuck with me.
