Take for example the following statement from HR 6010, introduced in 2010 and which died in committee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">United States citizens have been included on lists maintained by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to be assassinated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Really?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you read the full text of the bill (and to be honest, there was a second attempt at passing this legislation introduced in&nbsp; August 2012&#8211;outcome unknown), you&#8217;ll see it&#8217;s quite interesting we, as a nation, must pass laws to uphold the right of due process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bills like this are good fodder for those out there who might be looking for a story line or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I only mentioned this because some writers might need a little inspiration, and the archive of legislation through the years is certainly broad enough to provide that inspiration to many people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-research-into-stephen-crane\">Research into Stephen Crane<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve also been reading more Stephen Crane, both poetry (a reread) and his collected works. I find it interesting that Crane&#8217;s first novel, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44fXl9W\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Maggie: A Girl of the Streets<\/em><\/a>, was self-published and sold very little. I read it for the first time a few years ago. It&#8217;s rather short (a novella), and written in a very realistic style, something readers (or perhaps publishers) of the time didn&#8217;t want on their shelves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those who read my first novel <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3qSfGLN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Castles<\/em><\/a> might then know what I mean when I say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huh. Interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s also interesting to note that <em>Maggie<\/em> was considered &#8220;vulgar&#8221; and is anything but uplifting. If you haven&#8217;t read it before, check it out: <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44fXl9W\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Maggie: A Girl of the Streets<\/em><\/a>. Of course, after you read <em>Maggie<\/em>, check out <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3qSfGLN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Castles<\/a><\/em> for comparison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some other points of interest (if interesting only to me because I know what I&#8217;m thinking):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Crane often referred to some of his body of work as &#8220;sketches.&#8221; A posthumous volume of work was published as <em>Stephen Crane: Sullivan County Tales and Sketches<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huh. <a href=\"https:\/\/bxwretlind.com\/blog\/sketches-from-the-spanish-mustang\/\">Interesting<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The Red Badge of Courage<\/em> is a character-based novel set in a time of war.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huh. Interesting. (In one of my most ambitious and as yet-unfinished-but-certainly-outlined-to-death novels, this was the point.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Crane was the son of a Methodist minister.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huh. Interesting. (Okay. My father was a Baptist minister.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Crane was also convinced to published a volume of poetry, <em>The Black Riders and Other Lines<\/em>, which he released in 1895.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huh. Interesting?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wait. No. I have never released a volume of poetry, although some teachers in high school pointed to my style of intellectual poetry (versus those that evoke feeling) as something &#8220;Crane-like.&#8221; I once thought I would publish a volume, but I never felt I had enough material to fill one up. I did add a few poems to the upcoming collection <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3Jx7VBI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Regarding Dead Things on the Side of the Road<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-the-point-of-this-post\">What&#8217;s the Point of this Post?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None, really. These are just thoughts that have been running through my mind for the past few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many different parallels I find in my work and some interesting thoughts to ponder.
