Our timing could not have been worse. On August 8th, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2023_Hawaii_wildfires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a fire ripped through the western side of the island of Maui<\/a>, killing 115 people (at last count), with over 850 still missing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I used to live in Hawaii (on Oahu), and I have a strong connection to the people. Some of you know that for three years <a href=\"https:\/\/bxwretlind.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/09\/how-a-little-boy-gave-me-a-reason\/\">I raised a Hawaiian child<\/a>. To hear of the fire was devastating emotionally, and from the perspective of someone who has written extensively about the weather and its impact on our lives, this was yet one more example we <em>don&#8217;t<\/em> need to know that life can get out of control in seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What can we do? Focusing on this moment in time, we can lend a helping hand, even if that tiny island in the middle of the Pacific seems so far away. People are hurting and will continue to hurt for years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A portion of all my sales through the rest of 2023 will go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org\/strengthening\/maui-strong-fund\">The Maui Strong Fund<\/a>.<\/strong> I encourage you to visit the site and see if there is anything you can do as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a tendency in these times for people to search for reasons and grow angry at leaders or others who should have done something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yet people still hurt. It pains me to see so many of my &#8220;friends&#8221; make this tragedy political, and human nature tells me that will never change. In this thrilling opener to a trilogy, I found myself immersed in the dark and turbulent world of Astralvia, following the protagonist Jeral Murh in a race against time. Roversi&#8217;s talent in characterization and world-building stood out, painting a vivid picture that&#8217;s both authentic and engaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I appreciated the novel&#8217;s pacing, with twists and turns that kept me engaged. Themes of identity, humanity, and cosmos struck a chord and made me reflect on my place in the universe. There was complexity to the narrative, but it was worth the investment, and the philosophical musings blended with hard science fiction left me wanting more. I am a sucker for all things philosophical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3srQCfk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pulstar I<\/a><\/em>&#8216;s sophisticated world-building and unexpected twists create a reading experience that is both captivating and thought-provoking. Whether you&#8217;re into dystopian narratives or speculative fiction, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3srQCfk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pulstar I<\/a><\/em> has something for everyone.
