In addition to an amazing year with Emma\u2019s boyfriend, Hunter Wells, and Leslie\u2019s brand-new love interest, they\u2019ve gotten all the way through Homecoming with no one dying. <em>Oops!<\/em> At the end of October, Emma discovers the strangled body of Charlie Foreman, one of Leslie\u2019s favorite nemeses. But the first clue implicates Leslie in the crime. To make things worse, Emma\u2019s feeling a little oogy. She\u2019s tired and dizzy and something\u2019s wrong with her eyes. All Emma and Leslie are trying to do is find new methods for teaching the youth of America, hopefully using lessons from the Great Bard, their hero, William Shakespeare. But someone has a different idea: more schooling in murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bxwretlind.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/5-stars.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bxwretlind.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/5-stars.png\" alt=\"5 stars\" class=\"wp-image-7354\" width=\"256\" height=\"128\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bxwretlind.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/5-stars.png 512w, https:\/\/bxwretlind.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/5-stars-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><p id=\"review\"><strong>The Review<\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#8217;t believe I have ever read a book like this. That&#8217;s not to say I haven&#8217;t read humorous mysteries, but <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/42LzGgK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strangled by Simile<\/a><\/em> by Kelley Kaye was special. While this is the third book in the Chalkboard Outlines series, I have to say I will read the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/42LzGgK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strangled by Simile<\/a><\/em> is a modern-day who-dun-it murder mystery that will keep you on your toes. Emma Lovett, a young English teacher with physical challenges, works at Thomas Jefferson High in a small western Colorado town. She has a knack for discovering murder victims, and this time she finds herself involved in the investigation into the death of the football coach, Charlie Foreman. As Emma and her colleagues, including her best friend, Leslie Parker, try to unravel the mystery, they uncover hidden depths to Charlie&#8217;s character and motives that they never suspected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with all great books, the characters are what really make <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/42LzGgK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strangled by Simile<\/a><\/em> special. Emma and her crew are a likable and relatable bunch, with each member bringing their unique strengths and quirks to the table. Leslie, in particular, is a delight, with her witty Shakespearean repartee and fashion sense. The plot is well-paced and intriguing, with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. I appreciated the inclusion of a developmentally disabled person, and the story&#8217;s generous humanity and good sense of humor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite being a murder mystery, there is a lot of heart to this book. Kaye digs deep into the delicacies of life and how twists and turns and unwelcome surprises can happen to anyone, not just those involved in a murder. Emma&#8217;s own challenges, both in her personal and professional life, add depth to the story and give her character real relatability. Her debut novel, cozy mystery <em>Death by Diploma<\/em>, was released by Red Adept Publishing on February 2016, and is first in her Chalkboard Outlines\u00ae series. Book 2, <em>Poison by Punctuation<\/em>, was released April 2018. Book 3. <em>Strangled by Simile<\/em>, was released May 25, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kelley recently released Book 1 of a new YA Paranormal series called <em>The Meld<\/em>. The first book, <em>Magic, Please<\/em>, is available now. Kelley&#8217;s young adult novel,<em> Down in the Belly of the Whale<\/em>, was released May 5th, 2018 and is now available. Look for it in Kindle, paper, hardcover, and audio book&#8211;with Kelley, the author, as narrator! (She used to teach drama and direct plays.
