This was their 30th year, and I was blessed to have been given 3 different topics to present. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/bxwretlind.com\/blog\/2023\/05\/03\/post-conference-thoughts\/\">read more about it here<\/a>, but suffice to say, if you have the chance, this is by far the friendliest conference out there. Great for introverts and extroverts alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My goal, of course, is to be a keynote speaker. I figure I have about 30 years to get in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While at the conference, I made a few changes to all the things that are not books. For one, my website&#8217;s menu and focus. I&#8217;ve always had a lot on this site, but now I hope things will make a little more sense. I am thinking through other ways to reorganize my creative endeavors&#8230;but one step at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shortly after the conference was over, I received the best review of one of my books, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3LS6oGG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">All We Leave Behind<\/a><\/em>. It couldn&#8217;t have come at a better time either. Life is full of ups and downs, and when down, it&#8217;s nice to be lifted. If you get a chance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/customer-reviews\/R6BOBKZ1RBAW1\/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&amp;ASIN=B0B5VBTDGQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">please read the review<\/a> (and the book, of course).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aebris\">He just came out here to fish. Now we&#8217;re all screwed.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Coming in just 12 days&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While fishing on the watery planet Minor Pales, Levi Hurley finds an alien who claims to be from the impossible island of Aebris. Rather than throw his odd catch back, he smuggles the creature onto the <em>Amesware Abyss<\/em>, a prison mining rig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>Amesware Abyss<\/em> is not the friendliest place for anyone, let alone a strange alien. If it&#8217;s discovered, Levi fears the worst. Emma Lovett, a young English teacher with physical challenges, works at Thomas Jefferson High in a small western Colorado town. She has a knack for discovering murder victims, and this time she finds herself involved in the investigation into the death of the football coach, Charlie Foreman. As Emma and her colleagues, including her best friend, Leslie Parker, try to unravel the mystery, they uncover hidden depths to Charlie&#8217;s character and motives that they never suspected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with all great books, the characters are what really make <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3NWZ0w4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Strangled by Simile<\/em><\/a> special. Emma and her crew are a likable and relatable bunch, with each member bringing their unique strengths and quirks to the table. Leslie, in particular, is a delight, with her witty Shakespearean repartee and fashion sense. The plot is well-paced and intriguing, with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. Griffin&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I selected <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/42mzJ2J\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Accidental World<\/em><\/a> by K.A. Griffin as one of the 12 Indie books I would read and review in 2023, I really didn&#8217;t know what to expect. However, the story quickly drew me in with its quirky characters, fast-paced plot, and unexpected twists and turns. Call me sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The book revolves around Ethan, a likable teenager, and his journey through a mysterious and dangerous challenge that changes his life forever. The setting and characters are well-realized, and the author&#8217;s masterful storytelling kept me engaged and invested until the satisfying climax. As a fan of immersive fantasy and adventure series such as Percy Jackson, I found this book to be a fantastic addition to the genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be honest, I had trouble putting the book down and finished it in just a few days. The striking cover art by Eugene Ivanov really makes the book stand out in my library. <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/42mzJ2J\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Accidental World<\/em> <\/a>is a thoroughly enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone looking for an exciting and inspiring story.
